Twas The Night before Thanksgiving ------------------------------------- Twas the night before T-Day and all through the store. Not a cranberry left, not any, no more. The children were left all alone in the car As I shopped for some peas, and some gravy in jars. When over the speakers arose a loud yell I dropped the canned yams to hear what was for sale! Away to the seasonals I flew like a dash More cranberries in, but they sure wouldn't last. The lights on the span of the tiles at my feet Made the run of the shoppers seem like a track meet. When what do my wondering eyes do appear But the last of the turkeys, and pumpkin spice beers! A little old lady, so lively and quick Would get to them first, and deprive me my pick. More rapid than eagles I dove at the food, pushed aside all the others and called them all rude. Now Turkey, Now Stuffing, Now Corn and some Peas! More Rolls, and More Gravy, More Velveeta Cheese! To The top of my basket! The front of the store! Now dash away, dash away -- stuff to pay for! I spoke not a word, but went straight to the line.. Unloaded my basket of foods and cheap wine. And I heard them explain, as I walked through the gate: "Happy Thanksgiving yall, but next year don't wait!"
